Scarecrows are characters most kids associate with corn and other harvest veggies. Made from old clothes and straw, they have the important job of pretending to be human and protecting our homegrown food from birds.
Then later, when nobody’s looking, they come to life, right?
Luckily this craft stick scarecrow is a friendly one. He’s made using basic materials plus a few things easily found in most dollar stores. Or you can substitute them with whatever you have laying around.
When you’re done, you could optionally glue strong magnets to the back to turn your scarecrow into a fridge magnet.
Let’s make it!
How to make a craft stick scarecrow

You will need
- 6 standard popsicle sticks
- 2 mini popsicle sticks
- 2 12 mm wiggly eyes – or use our free printable paper eyes
- 2 pink buttons – or use pink circles of paper created with a hole punch
- Raffia
- Orange or brown felt
- Faux mini leaves – or use our printable paper leaves
- Fabric scraps
- Black Sharpie marker
- Yellow and light brown acrylic paint
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Paintbrushes
How to
Hot glue 2 mini popsicle sticks to the back of a row of 5 standard popsicle sticks to form the scarecrow’s face.
Hot glue 1 standard popsicle stick to the top of the scarecrow’s head at a slight angle to form a hat.

Paint the scarecrow’s hat yellow or light brown.

When the paint is dry, hot glue a small bunch of raffia under the hat. The amount you need will vary based on the thickness of your raffia.

Hot glue a small strip of fabric to make a band around the hat.
Hot glue a mini leaf (or sunflower) to the top of the hat.
Cut a small triangle out of the felt to make the scarecrow’s nose.
Hot glue the eyes, nose, and cheeks (pink buttons) to the scarecrow’s face.
Connect the buttons into a smile by drawing a dashed line with the Black Sharpie marker.

Your scarecrow craft is complete!

Aren’t they cute?
