Create a super cute 3D Pattern Art Raccoon with our latest project! This is a fun Woodland Animal art idea for kids, perfect for creating cozy vibes for Autumn or Fall.
Raccoons are known for getting up to mischief in urban environments, usually in the form of raiding garbage bins.
In fact, if they lived in Australia, they’d probably be good friends with the White Ibis, more commonly known as the less-glamorous-sounding Bin Chicken.
But I have serious respect for any creature that can turn trash into treasure. They’ve adapted to changes that weren’t in their best interest and somehow come out on top.
And if you can’t appreciate a raccoon’s love of trash, you’ve at least got to admit they look super cute while stealing it in their black bandit ‘masks’.
This 3D Pattern Art Raccoon is the next edition in our Woodland Animals series. He joins the 3D Pattern Art Fox (yet another mischief-maker) we shared last week.
I’ve used a combination of thick and thin black markers to decorate these cuties with doodle art. You can optionally add some white paint marker to create a furry texture on the grey part of the head. Alternatively, print on lighter grey and use a black marker.
Card stock is recommended for this project.
Age suggestion: 8+, but younger kids can make this with some adult help
How to Make a 3D Pattern Art Raccoon
You will need
- Card stock in white, grey and a colour of your choice for the background
- Thick black marker
- Black fine liner pens
- White paint pen
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- The 3D Pattern Art Raccoon template, available in our printables store and TPT store
How To
Print the raccoon details and support strips to white card stock and the body shape to grey.
Use a thick marker to divide the white sections into smaller shapes. Use a fine liner to fill each smaller shape with a different pattern.
Cut the support strips out, then fold and glue them into squares. For folding accuracy you can score the fold lines first using a ruler, cutting mat and scoring tool, but this step is not essential.
Fold and glue the head support strip into an irregular 3D shape.
Cut the raccoon body shape, head and doodle art details out.Â
Glue the tail onto a backing sheet of card stock. It should sit near the bottom and hang over the edge of the page.
Glue the stomach to the body, then glue flat to the paper over the tail.
Stick the ears to the back of the head, then glue the face to the front.
Use white paint pen or black marker to add small dashed patterns to the raccoon’s head.
Glue the head support above the raccoon body, and the head to the support shape. The chin should overlap the raccoon’s body.
Glue one support square to the back of each arm and foot, then glue them into place.
