How adorable are these Christmas stocking pets? This kid’s pattern art project features a 3D Christmas Stocking, decorated with doodle art designs, that has a kitten or puppy peeking out the top.

Q: What’s more magical than stockings stuffed with goodies on Christmas morning?
A: Christmas stockings with adorable kittens and puppies inside!
Of course, you’d have to make sure the stockings were hung very close to the ground so the baby animals don’t hurt themselves when they try to wriggle out, haha.
When designing this project, I couldn’t decide between a kitten or a puppy, so I thought, “Why not have both?” That way, the artist can choose their favourite animal—or make two artworks if they’re indecisive like me.
My girls would go crazy for a real kitten this Christmas. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to cats, so a kitten artwork on the wall is as close as they’re going to get. Plus, we already have two dogs.

When decorating the stocking, older kids, teens and adults can add texture and detail to the patterns using fine liners like I’ve done in the kitten example above. It works best if you use coloured fine liners like these ones here (affiliate link).
For younger kids, keep it simple with thick markers only. I’ve done this with the orange kitten artwork below.

This art project can be simplified for younger children by turning it into a colouring project. You could also eliminate the support strips so it’s less complicated to stick together.

How to make a Christmas Stocking Pets
You will need
- Cardstock in white and a colour of your choice for the background
- Markers and optional fineliner pens
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- The Christmas Stocking Pets template, available in our printables store and TPT store
How To
Print either the 2 puppy stocking or 2 kitten stocking pages to white.

Decorate the stocking and colour in the animal (or leave it white for a white puppy).

Cut the stocking and animal shapes out.
Cut the support strips out, then fold along the dotted lines and glue them into squares.

Glue the pet’s head onto the backing page. The top of the head needs to sit over the edge of the page in order to make space for the stocking.
On the back of the stocking and pet’s muzzle, glue 8 support squares.

Glue the stocking into place so the muzzle sits directly over the space marked on the head. The kitten stocking is now finished.

For the puppy stocking, glue the two remaining support squares to the back of the fringe and glue in the space marked on the puppy’s head.

Awww, which one would you pick for Christmas?

They are all just too cute to decide!
