penguin card idea for kids to make

When I was growing up, card-making was an obsession of mine, so I’m surprised by how few cards I’ve shared on my craft website as an adult.

I’ve decided to remedy that by sharing more card ideas with you guys, beginning with this penguin. He’s REALLY easy to make, you can put it together in no time at all.

Here’s how …

How to make a penguin card:

You will need:

  • Card stock in black, yellow, and white
  • Felt tip markers, pencils or crayons
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • The printable template, available in both our printables shop and TPT store

How to:

Print page 3 of the template to ordinary white paper, and page 4 to card stock.

Staple page 3 over the top of a sheet of black card stock, placing one staple in each corner. Fold along the centre line that joins the two arches together, then cut the shape out. You should have a folded black arch.

Cut out the inside arch from the white paper, and glue this onto the inside of your card so you can write in it.

You can use the stapling technique to cut out the feet, beak and wing shapes too, or alternatively, cut them out and trace the shapes onto black and yellow card stock.

Colour the hat in, and cut out the hat and white tummy shape.

Glue the tummy onto the front of the card first, followed by the beak, feet, and wings.

You can point the wings inward or outward. Inward makes the card ‘smaller’ and easier to mail though.

Aren’t they sweet?

You can see in the picture, I’ve used ordinary white paper for the white parts, and it shows through on the hat overlap in this inside picture. Using card stock would eliminate that problem.
