This is a simple, last-minute Halloween idea or monster-themed anytime craft.

Monster art and craft projects are universally popular with kids. Maybe it’s because they’re so easy to make from just about anything.

Take this idea, for example… make a leaf print, and then use our printable paper eyes and a marker or two to turn it into a monster. It’s similar to our sponge-painted monsters.

This nature art project is recommended for ages 6+, although younger kids could make it with some adult help.

It’s very easy… are you ready to start?

How to Make Leaf Print Monsters

You will need

  • leaves – medium to large-sized
  • Acrylic paint in bright monster colours
  • A paintbrush
  • Art paper
  • Markers
  • Printable paper eyes (the template is free)
  • Glue stick

How To

Head outside and collect some leaves. Pick any shape in a medium to large size. We’ve fitted three leaf monsters on one page, but you can print as many or few as you like.

Lay the leaf on a sheet of scrap paper and paint it all over with paint (leave no gaps).

Print the leaf onto white paper.

Create some more prints so your monster has some friends.

Allow the prints to dry completely.

Cut out some paper eyes from our printable template, or draw your own with a marker on white paper. Glue this on and add some hand-drawn monster features like a mouth, nose ears and horn to complete your creature.

To make teeth, cut out triangles from paper and glue them on.
