Here’s a cute and easy Mother’s Day idea for little kids—make a Ladybug Card with fingerprint wings!
There are multiple options with this template, including a colouring version.

Mother’s Day is this weekend, so this one’s cutting it fine, but I HAD to get one more card idea in for all of the wonderful mothers out there.
These adorable ladybugs have fingerprint spot wings. Slide them open to reveal Mama’s cute little bug inside.
If you don’t want to bother with photos, there is an alternative cartoon option to use behind the wings instead.

OR, if you prefer the simplicity of colouring in instead of messing around with black paint and coloured paper, there is a colour-your-own version too.

This card has been designed for preschoolers and kindergarteners. The shapes are uncomplicated to suit early scissor skills. However, due to varying fine motor skills within this age group, some kids may need adults to do the cutting out part.
Cardstock is recommended for this craft.

How to make a Ladybug Mother’s Day Card
You will need:
- Cardstock in black, white plus at least one colour
- Glue stick
- Black paint (for fingerprint version)
- Colouring supplies (for colour-in version)
- Brad clip paper fastener – 1 per card
- Penknife and cutting mat
- Portrait photo of child (optional)
- The Ladybug Card template, available in our printables store and TPT store
How to
Print the pages out according to the printing instructions.
If using the colouring card, colour the graphics.

Fingerprint version: decorate the wing shapes with black fingerprints and allow to dry.

Fingerprint version: Trace the bug body shape onto black cardstock and cut it out.

Cut all the shapes out.

Glue the circular inside page in the centre of the black bug.
Cut around the child’s head and shoulders to remove the background.

Glue the photo and bug eyes into place.

Adult step: Use a pen knife and cutting mat to create slits in the marked space for the wings. This is easiest to do by layering the wings over the bug body and making a cut through all pages at once.

Attach the wings using the brad clip.

Mom is going to love it!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums, moms and grandmas out there.
