3D Polar Bear Pattern Art with printable template

This Polar Bear Pattern Art project is the first instalment of our Winter doodle art series. 

Like all our doodle art projects, this activity is recommended for kids aged 8+ because of the fine motor skills and attention to detail required for patterning. 

Younger kids could still do this project with some adult help. You could also simplify it by turning it into a straight cut-and-paste.

Here’s how to make it …

How to make 3D Polar Bear Pattern Art

You will need

  • Card stock in white plus a colour of your choice for the background (3.5 sheets of card stock per bear)
  • Markers – either permanent Sharpie markers or regular kids washable markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • The Polar Bear Pattern Art Template, available from our Super Fun Printables store and our TPT store
 

 

How to

Print the template out according to the instructions in the download.

Template to create 3D Polar Bear pattern art

Decorate the polar bear’s clothing, foot pads, cheeks and ears in pattern art. Leave the body, snout and outer area of the feet white.

Steps to create 3D polar bear pattern art

Cut the support strips out, then fold and glue into squares. For folding accuracy, you can score the fold lines first using a ruler, cutting mat and scoring tool but this step is not essential.

Cut the polar bear shapes out.

Steps to create 3D polar bear pattern art

Glue the head and torso onto a backing sheet of card stock.

On the back of the scarf, glue 4 support squares. Glue over the bear’s neck.

On the back of each foot, glue 3 support squares. Glue in place near the base of the page.

On the back of the snout, glue 1 support square. Glue in place on the bear’s face.

Glue the beanie onto the head, flat to the page. It can overlap the top edge of the page.
