Autumn colours give us warm, cozy vibes and there are soooo many ways to create art using falling leaves as inspiration.

This project is great for kids who are developing fine motor and scissors skills. For older kids, you can extend the activity by getting them to draw or paint their own tree background on a larger sheet of art paper.

The printable tree background used in the example is free to download. All that’s left to add is tissue paper and glue.

You could switch this to a Summer forest scene by using shades of green tissue paper for the leaves. For Spring crafting, we have tissue paper flower art and butterflies.

Are you ready to get started?

How to create Tissue Paper Autumn Trees

You will need:

  • Paper – card stock works best when applying layers of glue to avoid the paper warping but ordinary paper is OK if you have no card stock
  • Elmers School Glue (affiliate link), or PVA glue
  • Paint Brush
  • Tissue Paper Squares (it’s fun for kids to help cut the squares but for some younger kids it may be easier for an adult to cut them beforehand)
  • The Fall Forest Background

How to

Print your tree background to card stock if you have it, otherwise paper.

Pour glue directly onto the tree background and spread it evenly across the tree canopy area using a paint brush.
