What better way to celebrate on St Patricks day than in a fizzing green bath that smells like Irish Cream, right? This bath bomb recipe is easy to make and would also make lovely DIY gifts for somebody special. Here’s how…

How to make Shamrock Bath Bombs

You will need:

  • 2 1/4 cups baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup citric acid (It’s better to buy in bulk on Amazon)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon polysorbate 80 (I get mine on Amazon)
  • 1 teaspoon Irish Cream scented oil (I get mine from Amazon)
  • Green mica powder (I get mine from this set on Amazon)
  • Green cosmetic glitter (I get mine from this set on Amazon)
  • Gold cosmetic glitter (I get mine from this set on Amazon)
  • Shamrock mold (I get mine on Amazon)
  • Spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol
  • 1 large mixing bowl

How to:

In a large mixing bowl, add the baking soda, citric acid, cream of tartar and cornstarch.

Add the coconut oil. This binds all the ingredients together, so you bath bombs don’t crumble when you touch them!

Add the polysorbate 80. This helps the coconut oil disperse more evenly in your bath water, makes the bath bombs bubbly and prevents the mica from sticking to the side of the tub.

Add the Irish Cream scented oil.

Mix the ingredients together. The mixture is perfect when it holds together when you press it into your hands and feels like wet sand.

Add the mica powder, the green and the gold glitter. Mix the ingredients together.

Add the mixture into each cavity of the mold. Press down firmly, but not so hard you make cracks in the mixture or make the mold bend out of shape.

Allow to dry a minimum of 24 hours. If your climate is wet or cold, allow an additional 24 hours. My rule of thumb is that when it is hard to the touch, they are ready for the tub! To remove, gently press the mold from the bottom, until you see the bath bomb coming up from the mold. When it is about half way out, VERY gently pull it out. Store in an airtight container until ready for use.
