If you’re after a simple but cute Easter hat, these paper cup Easter hats are for you!
All credit to my 4-year-old who pleaded with me in the supermarket to (randomly) buy a packet of paper cups.
“I’m sure we can make something with them!”
She was correct!

How to make paper cut Easter hats

You will need:

• A paper cup
• Hole punch
• Tissue paper
• Markers
• Craft glue
• Scissors
• Pipe cleaners or ribbon
• Feathers and a hot glue gun (if you choose to make the chick paper cup hat)

Materials for paper cup hat

How to:

These instructions show how we made our hats. Feel free to deviate from the way we did it- in fact, I’m ALL FOR you putting your own unique touches on your project.

  1. Punch a hole on either side of the cup. We painted our cups. This is your choice- you could leave your cup white. Your child might prefer to use pencils, markers or crayons instead. Like I said, I’m ALL FOR YOU adapting the project to what you have on hand.
  2. Use markers to draw a face on your cups.
  3. If you’re making a bunny paper cup Easter hat, trace out 2 ears and paws onto card. We painted ours. Your child could simply colour it in with pencil if you don’t want to crack out the paint!
  4. If you’re making a bunny paper cup Easter hat, tear off strips of tissue paper and roll into little balls. This is excellent fine motor practice for little hands. Glue these little tissue paper balls onto the ears and paws. I like to pour the craft glue into a small container and apply with an old paintbrush.
  5. Concertina fold two equal strips of card. Glue one end onto one paw. Glue the other end onto the cup. Repeat with other paw and concertina strip.
  6. Glue the ears into place. String ribbon or pipe cleaners through holes to create a tie for your hat.
Parade around proudly with your hat.
  7. If you’re making the chick paper cup Easter hat, we first painted the cup yellow. Then we used a triangle of orange tissue paper for the beak.
We scrunched some red tissue paper and glued that onto the chick’s head.
I then used a hot glue gun to secure the feathers in place at the back of the cup.
You could choose to secure feathers with tape or craft glue if you don’t have a hot glue gun.
  8. String ribbon or pipe cleaners through holes to create a tie for your hat.
