Kid-made flying fairy car

Fairy-Car-6r

My kids are growing up and becoming more and more independent. Miss R is already at big school five days a week and that leaves me and Miss K at home together on the days she’s not at pre-school. It’s lovely to spend some mother-daughter time with her because as the little sister she’s always been in Miss R’s shadow, and has had very little one-on-one time with me. This week while Miss R was at school Miss K decided she wanted to make a car, a Flying Fairy car to be exact. This is how we made it.

You will need

• A nice sized cardboard box
• Some paint and large sponge brushes or rollers
• Something to tie on for the straps (we used a pretty knitted wide, flat wool that’s a bit like lace)
• Paper (or plastic) plates and disposable pie tins to finish it off
• Sequins or similar to decorate
• Glue and double sided tape

I took Miss K out to Bunnings and we selected a box that looked just perfect. She insisted on carrying it to the car all by herself.

Miss K told me, in no uncertain terms, to get her out the rainbow paints and go away. She wanted to make this all by herself. I did just that, but took a few pictures here and there while she was making it.

The “rainbow” paints were soon mixed up in to a muddy purple, but Miss K thought this was very clever, yelling out with great excitement about how she had “made purple!!” She kindly allowed me to finish off the last half of the last panel once her arm got tired.

Next it needed pretty butterfly sparkles. Miss K glued these on once the paint was dry, and then allowed them to dry whilst we went to collect Miss R from big school.

I finished off the car for her by using double sided tape to stick some plastic plates left over from her fairy party, some disposable small pie tins for headlights, and some straps so she could walk around in it. I also cut out the base of the box after it had been painted.
