Do you remember having to learn your times tables as a kid? I can remember reciting them daily, and I can even remember some of them still. However, creating these printable colouring mandalas has forced me to admit that I never learned them very well at all.

As boring as learning times tables can be, I really want my kids to remember them because I know how much easier it will make math problems for the rest of their life.

Multiplication tables are not one of those useless things all kids must learn (and then forget soon after) because our school curriculum says so. They really do come in handy for life, like when you need to work out something quickly at the grocery store, or calculating the number of carbs in a single portion of food for your T1 diabetic kid (OK, that’s not everybody but you get what I mean).

I wish I had done a better job of learning these when I was young. For this reason, I’ve been brain storming some non-boring ways of learning the times tables to help my girls and, ahem, even myself store the answers permanently in our heads. This is the first I’m sharing with you today.

Without further ado here are our multiplication mandalas.  This printable includes one colouring page for each of the times tables from 1-12, featuring a different geometric pattern mandala for each.

How Multiplication Mandalas work

Kids need to use the colour code (multiplication tables) to figure out what colour to make the shapes in the mandala. A full-colour set of mini mandalas is included so they can check their work.

Of course I have tested these out on the girls, and colouring is something they genuinely enjoy doing so they are liking their times table practice. I count that as a win!

I’ll have a few more times table practice ideas to share in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
