Explosion Cards Tutorial

How fun are these Mother’s Day/Father’s Day Explosion Cards? Our template includes US and international spellings of Mum and Mom, a version for Dad for when Father’s Day rolls around, and a “You Are” version for grandparents and carers who go by other names…

So you can basically make this card for anyone. When Mum or Dad open it, a message about how wonderful they are “explodes” out!

This craft is suitable for ages 8 and up.

Explosion cards for Mother's Day and Father's Day

Nobody’s perfect—not even us parents—but when you think about it, we do a lot! So it’s nice to have one day each year to bask in some thanks from our kids.

My mum and dad have always done a lot for me, too. It’s not that I don’t notice, it’s just that I never think to give them much positive feedback until Mother’s Day or Father’s Day comes around.

This card is filled with positive words that may seem a little over the top, but they need to be said, because the rest of the time, parents are taken for granted. Everyone likes to be reminded that they’re doing a great job sometimes.

My mum and dad are Wonderful, Terrific, Excellent, Amazing, Super and Incredible. What about yours?

This card is designed to be a pattern art base. Use the printed starburst sections as areas to fill with doodle art designs to make your card unique. It also works as a straight colour-in project if you don’t want to bother with patterning.

Mothers Day printable cards—use an origami folding technique to make fun cards that really POP for Mothers Day. A Father's Day version is also included

Extension Option

If you’d like to extend the project, there’s a blank starburst included. Kids can come up with personalised adjectives to describe their mum or dad. Write these in fancy lettering in every second space then decorate the spaces in between with pattern art.

Cardstock is recommended for sturdiness but paper also works. If using paper, be sure to use washable markers or pencils instead of sharpie markers.
