Recently my own two princesses were lucky enough to be invited to a special “meet and greet” with some of the amazing skaters from the Disney on Ice presents Treasure Trove show. What a fab day out it was, and the girls had an absolute blast! In this post I’m sharing a few pictures and a video of the fun they had plus we have three Disney activity sheets that you can print out for the kids to do at home.
My girls don’t need a special occasion to don their favourite Disney dress-up gowns, they wear them all the time anyway. However, they were super excited to be going to an occasion that actually called for a fabulous princess frock, and even more excited at the prospect of going ice skating. Living in a climate with long summers and mild winters means they have never seen snow before in their lives, and both girls have always wanted to go ice skating but I have never taken them. Miss R was extremely confident about getting on to the ice, and I can quote her saying: “It’s OK Mum, I know how to skate. I’ve seen it on TV. You just go step-step-glide, like that”. She loves to practice all the time by skidding around on the floor boards at home in her socks.
Needless to say, ice skating was far trickier than she had ever imagined, but luckily she received some extra help from the professional skaters in the show. Here are a few pictures, and yes, that is me in the bottom right hand picture having a crack at it myself…
The girls were pushed around on chairs and then had a turn at pushing one of the skaters on the chairs. They were twirled and swung in the air, much to their delight, and for the grand finale one skater caught the ice shavings his boot made from a big sliding skid on the ice and presented the girls with a snow ball each. This is the closest thing to real snow that they have ever seen or felt before, and they carried their “snowballs” with them wherever they went until they completely melted.

Now how’s that for a first experience on skates?
The girls were thrilled to meet Mickey Mouse once the skating was over and received a goody bag with a colouring book and princess necklace inside. We also have three printable Disney activity sheets that your kids can do at home. To view and download them, click on the links below:
