My girls love drawing. It’s something that they usually do without any prompting by me, but this time I thought it would be fun to mix it up with a new medium that they could get creative with.

This foil art idea is low mess, low fuss and gives them a different shiny, smooth surface to draw on that they can see their reflection in. Needless to say, a big hit at our place!

How to create foil art frames

You will need:

  • Heavy cardboard scraps, cut into irregular sized rectangles and squares. Having odd sizes adds a bit of interest for them.
  • Aluminium foil
  • Washi tape
  • Sharpie markers in assorted colours
  • Plastic tablecloth – permanent marker is hard to get off furniture!

How to:

Wrap the cardboard in pieces of foil, add a border of washi tape and you’re ready to go.

Ideally get a few pieces set up beforehand for the kids to create with. My two came over as I was setting up and began taking them out of my hands immediately. I couldn’t pump out the art boards fast enough!

We made a collage from them to brighten up some blank wall space. They are attached to the wall with a small amount of blu-tack (sticky tack).

This activity would be fun for older kids too.
