When I buy Father’s day cards these days it’s no longer for just for “Dad”. We are always searching for cards with “Pop” or “Poppy” on the front. What name do you look for?

I decided to put the question out there to our crafty community on facebook, and received all sorts of answers! People are needing cards for Papa, Grandaddy, Paw Paw, Poppa, Daddyo, Grandbuddy, Pops, Opa, Pappy, P-Pa… you get the picture. I tried to include the most popular names in our printable card bundle, but for all the sweet extras out there (you know who you are) there are versions with blank spaces so you can personalise it for the very important Dads and Grandfathers in your life.

How to make a Fathers Day explosion card

I discovered this “explosion” folding technique while researching paper crafts recently, and I absolutely knew I had to try it! Basically, you open the card and a message “explodes” out.

I couldn’t resist making a popup “POP” version, haha.

The template to make the explosion cards is available from our printables store.

The technique itself is simple but if you’re crafting with kids they need to have enough fine motor skills to handle simple origami. For my own kids, that was around 8 years old, but every child is different. If you have younger kids you could always help them with the folding part and have them colour it in.

Our Father’s Day explosion cards are designed to be printed on plain paper – if you print them on board the origami part will be tricky and the paper too bulky to close properly.

The cards come in full colour and colour-your-own for a more personalised touch.

Watch the video to see how to fold it correctly, or follow the printed step-by-step instructions included in the bundle.

Wishing all the Dads out there a great fathers Day!
