This colourful set of printable times tables bookmarks has been designed to help kids learn and practice their multiplication tables in small snippets before they read. It can be used as either a wall chart (there are two pages, one with 1-6 and one with 7-12) or cut into strips and used as bookmarks.

While my girls both claim they love maths, neither of them claim to love times table drilling. My suspicion is that when we teach kids in boring ways (like memorisation by rote) it sucks that natural love of learning right out of the picture, and they begin to take a lot less interest. I’ve been making it my mission to come up with ways of learning the multiplication tables which combine that learning with an activity kids enjoy. Hopefully this will translate into them remembering their times tables for the long term.

Last week I shared some times table colouring mandalas, because the girls genuinely love colouring. They also adore reading, so this week I’m sharing a set of times table bookmarks. There is one for each multiplication table from 1-12.

How to use Times Table Bookmarks

The idea is to choose one table to focus on, and each time kids take out their book to read, they first need to read their times table bookmark. Each time they read a bookmark, the times table will become a little more embedded in their memory. This is the aim, anyway!

I also place a times table bookmark in the book we’re currently reading together, and before we dive into the story I give them a quick quiz on a few random multiplication questions from the bookmark. I’m happy to say they both now have the 2’s down pat, and we’re moving onto the 3’s. I know we still have a way to go, but so far I’m calling it a win.

The times table bookmarks come on two printable A4 sheets, which can alternatively be used as a colourful wall poster. I found that two A4 sheets is about the right size for my kids’ bedrooms, but if you want larger posters you could print to A3 size and select “scale to fit” in your print menu.

  1. Do you do downloadable ones so can start using them immediately instead of waiting for them to be posted.

    1. Sorry I don’t do that, the email does get sent immediately though so you will receive it straight away. If I include printables and templates as direct downloads it unfortunately opens them up the theft from other websites and scrapers
