Easter is nearly here, and what better way to celebrate than with some colourful pom pom bunnies. These cuties are a perfect afternoon craft activity that both kids and adults can enjoy.

The best part? You don’t need any fancy tools or materials to make them. All you need is yarn, scissors, a glue stick, and our free printable bunny template. The template comes in a rainbow of colours, so you can choose your favourite or make them all. There’s also a colour-your-own version if you want to get creative with it.

Our bunnies are made using a similar technique to our pom pom hedgehogs, pom pom turtles, and pom pom chicks

We’ve used the medium-sized frame of our DIY cardboard pom pom maker to make the bunnies. There is no need to download the pom pom maker template separately because the correct size is included with the bunny printable.

Are you ready to get started on the bunny craft?

How to make a pom pom bunny

You will need:

  • Card stock to print the template on (ordinary paper won’t be sturdy enough)
  • Yarn in a range of colours to match the template
  • A scrap of thick recycled cardboard (the kind you get on a cardboard carton)
  • A glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Our pom pom bunny template

Print the template to card stock.

If you prefer, print out the line art version and colour or pattern the bunnies any way you like.

Cut out the bunny shapes.

Fold the tab on the ears and glue them to the body so they line up with the bunny’s front paws. It’s important to stick the ears on first.

Fold the tabs on the face, then bend into an arch shape and glue over the top of the ear tab.

Make a DIY pom pom maker from the recycled scrap of cardboard. For more detailed instructions visit this tutorial here.

Wrap the yarn around the pom pom maker until you have a fat bundle, then tie it tightly around the centre.

Slide the bundle off the edge of the pom pom maker, then tie it tightly again around the centre (the tighter you make it, the better your pom pom will work). 

DIY pom pom

Trim the looped ends to get your pom pom, then give the pom pom a trim to tidy it up a bit. Avoid trimming the two long strands that you’ve used to tie the centre.

Tie the pom pom around the bunny’s tummy and you’re done!

Now he’s going to need some friends, because the Easter bunny needs lots of helpers.

Once you’ve made your bunnies, don’t forget to name them. Ours are called peaches, passionfruit, bananas, blueberry and green apple. Can you guess which is which?
