purse mothers day card for kids to make

I can’t speak for all mothers, but for me the best thing about mothers day has always been the adorable handmade cards my kids bring home from school.

Both of my girls are in high school now, which sadly spells the end of this for me! Boo hoo. But that won’t stop me from designing cards for YOUR kids to make.

handbag mothers day card for kids

This purse card is ultra-simple. I’ve used screwballs of tissue wrap to decorate my purses and glued them on like pearls or jewels. This is optional, the handbags can be decorated any way you like. Kids can colour and pattern them with paint, markers, crayons, etc. Feel free to get creative with it!

There are four alternate inside options for the handbag: Blank, ‘Happy Mother’s Day’, and a poem that is included with alternate spellings of mum and mom.

The poem inside reads:
Thanks to you
For all you do
I feel blessed to have
A mom like you
Happy Mothers Day

* includes a version with mum instead of mom

Here’s how to make it…

How to make a purse card for mother’s day

You will need:

  • Card stock in two colours
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Items to decorate the handbag (eg: tissue paper screwballs, pencils, paint, markers, etc.)
  • The purse card template, available from our shop as well as our TPT store

How to:

Print the handbag shape to coloured card stock, and the inside, handle, and heart template to a different colour.

Fold each template along the fold line, then cut out the shapes.

Align the folds up and glue the inside oval piece beneath the flap. Glue the handle on the back.

For the heart clasp, place glue on the bottom (pointy) half of the heart only and allow to dry. You can now tuck the flap under top of the heart to ‘close’ your purse card.

Write your special message inside the card, or colour the lettering if you’re using the ‘happy mother’s day’ version.

Mom (or Mum, Nanna, Gran, Nonna … or whatever you call your mother or grandparent) is going to love it!
