Do you keep plastic lids from milk bottles? You should, because we have a fun bottle cap craft idea to share with you today – turn them into a set of DIY shakers!

We originally made this easy recycling craft in 2014. It’s been updated and reshared for today’s audience.

Here’s a craft you can pull together in around 5 minutes from stuff you probably already have at home. It then becomes a fun DIY toy for the kids, gotta love that!

This bottle cap craft was actually dreamed up by my 5-year-old. The original version was made out of beer bottle caps taped together with rice bubbles inside.

Creative yes, but it didn’t make that much of a noise so I changed it just a little bit by using plastic milk bottle lids and colourful duct and electrical tape.

Here’s how we made them…

materials needed for bottle cap craft shakers

You will need:

  • Plastic milk bottle caps washed and dried (2 per shaker)
  • Small plastic beads
  • Duct tape
  • Scissors

How to:

Put some beads inside one milk bottle cap.

step one to make bottle cap shakers

Put a second cap on top and tape it together with duct tape.

Step 2 bottle cap shakers

Cut out a little shape from duct tape to decorate.

Step 3 bottle cap shakers

The simpler the shape, the easier this step will be because the duct tape is very sticky.
