Year by year Halloween is warming on me. I love that my kids get so excited about getting all dressed up for it and walking the streets in search of decorated houses for trick-or-treating.

Around here, not everyone celebrates Halloween (mainly just the families with kids), so the decorated houses is one way of knowing where to stop. We also take along our own bag of treats for reverse trick-or-treating. See how we do that here

Here’s a fun way to preserve your kids’ Halloween costume memories. Make a pom pom spider frame!

All you need are a few basic craft supplies like craft sticks and yarn and you’re good to go.

You could even turn your spider frame into a fridge magnet by gluing magnets on the back.

At our house, we LOVE Halloween crafting. Getting creative with spooky themes like spiders, ghosts and monsters is so much fun, don’t you think?

But now, let’s make a spooky spider frame to display those cute costume photos in!

How to make a Spider Frame for Halloween

You will need:

  • Craft sticks in Jumbo size
  • White yarn
  • Black paint
  • Thick yarn in any colour you like for the spider
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Googly eyes â€” or use our free printable paper eyes for a more eco-friendly version
  • Craft glue
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors and paint brush

How to:

  1. Paint the craft sticks black and allow to dry
  2. Roll some thick yarn around your four fingers. If this sounds awkward or tricky you might find wrapping the yarn around a square of cardboard easier
  3. Slide the bunch of yarn off your fingers and tie tightly in the centre. Flip over and tie tightly on the opposite side
  4. Cut 2 pipe cleaners in half so you have four half-lengths
  5. Wrap each around the centre of your yarn. Twist and press flat so they look like spider legs
  6. Cut the looped ends of the yarn ball and trim into a rough ball shape on each side. This is your spider!
  7. Glue two googly eyes in place
  8. Glue the craft sticks into a frame shape.
  9. Wrap white yarn around the frame to look like a web. Tie it off.
  10. Hot glue the spider on the front

Ta-da! Now you have a spider frame. Glue a photo into place, or a sheet of paper and write a spooky halloween message on it for decoration.
