Here is a quick and easy drawstring treasure pouch the kids can make in 30 minutes.

My kids are happy little crafters. Funnily enough the projects I design aren’t really what they want to be working on. Instead, they’d rather do their own thing or get inspiration from craft books (they have quite the collection!). Or often they will stick their face over my shoulder while I’m browsing Pinterest and demand to make “that one there!”. They will be pointing at cool slime recipes, origami creations or cute sewing projects usually.

We were excited to receive some crafty inspiration in the mail recently in the form of a new book to review by Cintia Gonzalez of My Poppet Makes. The book is titled Make in a Day Crafts for Kids and has 15 easy craft ideas that will get kids away from screens and busy making something.

Immediately upon opening the package the girls decided to get crafting on one of the projects. They both chose to make the drawstring treasure pouch and needed very little help or input from me.

The pouch in the book is made from leather but the girls just made use of what we had at home, both selecting fabric from our scrap fabric box. They traced a circle around a plate using a permanent marker and used a paper hole punch to create the holes around the edges for threading the ribbon through. They did need a little help making the holes because it can be tough to punch a hole through fabric using a paper punch!

The rest they did by themselves, selecting ribbon to tie the drawstring with and threading beads and buttons on the ends of the strings.

In the end they both had their very own pouch created in around 30 minutes to fill with treasures. Aren’t they cute?

I asked one of the girls to write her own review and this is what she said:

About the craft book:

This is a very good book and there are still a lot of things I want to make from it. In particular the donut garland and the animal gift boxes.

How to make a Drawstring Treasure Pouch:

This is a nice easy craft for kids and you don’t need that many things to make it. I know because I made one myself.

This book would make a fun gift for a crafty kids along with a few supplies. You can get your copy here.
